Have you read or heard of Tales of the Defended Ones by Beth Guckenberger? I just finished reading it and it is a powerful read indeed. Warning - it will both challenge and change you - in a good way. There are hard situations and hard topics in life that many people turn a blind eye to, they simply do not want to get involved. They avoid reading those books, watching those movies and move in a different direction. As a Christian, I am here to say that I do not think this is the answer. Hotel Rwanda was a hard movie to watch and absorb; yet, it was a story that needed to be told. Tales of the Defended Ones tells the stories of five children in difficult predicaments - loved ones dying, abuse, slavery - and yet, there is a light! Is it an easy read emotionally? No, and yet yes! Their stories not only need to be told but they need to be read as well. Unfortunately, bad things happen to people (there is darkness on the Earth) but I agree with Beth that God is in the midst of it. He is the ultimate judge, vindicator and he defends those who cannot defend themselves. Prepare yourself to be changed.
