Holy Ghost Movie Review & Giveaway

I have another movie to tell you about, Holy Ghost from Wanderlust media.  This movie reminded me so much of Father of Lights as it has the same director and same feel.  The concept of the movie is simple.  There is no agenda, go wherever God leads and see what adventure awaits.  This movie discusses the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit quite a bit, you might have guessed from the title.  This movie is an encouragement for Christians to listen to the Holy Spirit and follow His lead.  When you are new to this there are a lot of questions.  One main question being,  Is that me or the Holy Spirit?  How do you know?  You take risks.  You are willing to make a fool of yourself.  Sometimes you may miss it but sometimes you won't.  As you train yourself to hear the Holy Spirit you will learn to recognize his voice.  You can also watch for fruit.  Learning to recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit is similar to learning a language.  What is the easiest way to learn a language?  Be child-like, listen and don't be afraid to get it wrong.  This movie has several examples of people encountering the Holy Spirit.

I think one of my favorite sections of the movie was when the director followed Brian and Fieldy, members of the rock band Korn, around before and after their concert to pray for people.  Brian and Fieldy, both born again Christians, shared about their life, testimonies and prayed for the salvation and healing of many.  It was really cool to be reminded that God can use us anywhere and in any situation.  These guys have an amazing ministry and it was fun to watch.

On September 6th, Wanderlust Productions will host the FREE worldwide premiere of the film at this site -- HolyGhostMovie.com

Read more about this film below.  And make sure to enter the giveaway!

About the film:
Can the Holy Spirit direct a movie?  In this fast-paced documentary from the director of the popular films Finger of God, Furious Love, and Father of Lights, Darren Wilson sets out to make a movie that is completely led by the Holy Spirit.  No plan, no script, no safety net - just go wherever he feels the Spirit leading him to try and discover the adventure God has for him.  Whether it's the riches of Monte Carlo, a heavy metal concert, or the oldest city in the world, the result is a film that not only challenges and excites, but also reveals a God who is far more alive and active than you ever imagined.

The movie features big names such as Lenny Kravitz, Brain "Head" Welch, Bill Johnson, Michael. W. Smith, Todd White, Meredith Andrews, DeVon Franklin, William P. Young, Phil Vischer, and many more!

Weight Gurus Digital Scale Review

http://becomegurus.com/setup/weightless

Have you heard of Become Gurus?  They make a Digital Bathroom Scale (Weight Gurus) that I have been using for a few weeks.

My new scale

At Weight Gurus their goal is to help people really take hold of their health which I think is awesome!  This scale is designed to make weight management convenient and easy with smartphone tracking and the weightless technology option.  Now you don't have to use the app and phone tracking but I have found it to be helpful and encouraging.

Let me give a run down of the scale features.  In no particular order this scale has auto step-on (turns on automatically), auto off, auto calibrations, auto user detect for multiple users (as long as the users are not within 10 lbs), supports up to 8 users (everyone in my home), non-slip/scratch resistant feet, 400 lb capacity, durable tempered glass construction, and an extra large backlight.

I love that everyone in my home can use this scale and we can track progress.  Currently, I am the only one in my household that is trying to lose weight.  This scale can actually be nice in weighing the children to see how much they have grown (a bit different perspective).  If users are less than 10 pounds in weight the auto user detect may not be accurate but you can just manually select the user in use.

I downloaded the free app.

This scale is designed to encourage weight loss.  You can download the FREE Weight Gurus App, which allows you to track your progress and can help encourage you to reach your goal.  Just scan your scale's display after weighing.  You can view entries, trends and chart your progress.  You have the option of seeing how much you weigh in numbers or choosing the weightless feature which lets you manage your weight by how much you've lost instead of how much you weight.  With weightless you can decide how to view your weight - by the number (150 lbs) or weightlessly by weight change (-10lbs).

Here you can see some of my progress.

The weightless technology is definitely my favorite feature.  I love seeing how much I have lost instead of focusing on how much I weigh, this is definitely more encouraging to me personally.  I set a pretty hefty goal but I hope to be more disciplined in putting my health first.

Become Gurus has a few awesome tutorials I want to share.  First there is this set-up tutorial.  It made setting up my new scale a breeze.

And then, you can watch this tutorial on how to sync your scale.  Easy peasy.

What do you think?  I would love to hear your thoughts.

Be sure to visit Become Gurus on facebook and twitter for more information.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

The Grave Robber Book Review & $25 Family Christian Gift Card Giveaway

I have another book to tell you about, The Grave Robber: How Jesus Can Make Your Impossible Possible by Mark Batterson.  Yes, this book is about the grave robber himself, Jesus.  Batterson walks us through seven miracles or signs spotlighted in the Gospel of John, each revealing a dimension of Jesus' power.  You will recount Jesus turning water into wine all the way to raising Lazarus from the dead, He really is incredible.

Batterson tell us, "Don't seek miracles.  Seek Jesus.  And if you seek Jesus, miracles will find you."  I love this!  After all, Jesus is the source of every miracle.  Simple words with profound meaning.  I often become distracted in my Christian walk and it usually doesn't take long before I realize that I am ignoring the cornerstone of my faith.  How can I walk the path God sets before me if I am ignoring the maker of my path?  Seek Jesus.

Batterson doesn't just focus on miracles of the past but rather invites you to join Jesus in the present.  Miracles happen TODAY all around us both big and small.  Batterson helps open your eyes to it all.  He has a knack for drawing you in and showing you how miracles of the past are inspiring and relevant now.  This book is encouraging and life-giving.

Alphie the Squid Game Review

I want to tell you about a fun, new mobile game, Alphie the Squid.  Alphie is an adorable little squid that has adventures and as he eats he grows along the way until finally he is a giant squid.

The Beginning of the Game

Alphie following behind his Mom.

In the beginning of the game, Alphie is in the ocean with his Mom.  Alphie's Mom is chased off by a great white shark and Alphie starts his journey to find her.  Don't worry, Alphie ends up finding her and reconnecting with her at the end of the game!

 Here they are hugging!

This game is fun, educational and my kids love it.  My kids have really enjoyed figuring out which creatures Alphie could eat and which creatures to stay away from.  They also found it fascinating that once Alphie was a giant squid, he could eat some of the creatures that preyed on him when he was small.  I really like the Gallery.  After you have discovered creatures you can go into the gallery and learn more about them.  You can see below my kids need to discover one more creature, they have found 42/43.

 About Flashlight Fish

About Moon Jelly

Alphie the Squid was featured as New and Noteworthy in 36 countries and now with the latest content update to the game, it has just been featured on the App Store as "Best New Game Update" in 110 countries!

Another cool thing to note is that Crystal Entertainment, the publisher behind this game, has teamed with The Monterey Bay Aquarium.  For every download of the game from the App Store, $1 of proceeds will go to supporting the Aquarium's nonprofit Children's Education fund.

Want to find out more?  You can visit Alphie on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.  And you can get the App on itunes or amazon.

The Boxcar Children Movie Review & Giveaway

I have an amazing movie to share with you, The Boxcar Children!  This has been a book in our homeschool library for years so my kids, especially the older ones, are familiar with the story.  If you are not familiar with the story, four children whose parents recently passed away find themselves alone and on the road.  They fear that their grandfather is cruel and wouldn't want them because he has never visited them when their parents were alive.  They find an abandoned boxcar tucked away in the woods and work hard to make it their home.  The children are polite, creative, thoughtful and it is wonderful to see how much they care for each other.  I love the reconciliation in the story with the children's grandfather.  This movie is full of teachable moments and a great addition to our movie library!  My kids adore it and ask to watch it often.

The kids and their friends at the park.

The kids were playing with their friends at the park.  They began to pick up glass all around the park and clean it in a small puddle of water they found.  When I asked them what they were doing they told me that they were making the glass beautiful like the Boxcar children did with their dishes.  My kids were able to see something beautiful from something most people would just pass by and in the end we were able to help clean up our local park and make it safer, a win-win!

Read more about this film and cast below.  Order your own copy here and be sure the enter the giveaway!

About the Film
Four orphaned and homeless siblings happen upon an abandoned boxcar, which with a little creativity and hard work, they gradually furnish with all the comforts of home.  Fearful that they will be sent to live with the reputedly cruel grandfather they have never met, the children keep their new home a secret - until a serious illness forces them to reveal themselves in order to save young Violet.

About the Cast
Featuring an all-star cast of voice actors, including Academy Award Nominee Martin Sheen (Apocalypse Now), J.K. Simmons (Spiderman), Zach Gordon (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Joey King (Fargo), Mackenzie Foy (Twilight series), and Jadon Sand (LEGO: The Movie), this is the very first full-length animated feature adaptation of Gertrude Chandler Warner's best-selling classic!

The Christmas Story Book Review

It is not uncommon for people to think about Christmas in July but what about August?  Honestly, Christmas is something that I think about pretty regularly throughout the year and I love that my kids enjoy Christmas books no matter the month.  I have a Christmas book to tell you about today, The Christmas Story by Anita Ganeri.  I really love the watercolor illustrations, they are beautiful (kudos to Rachael Phillips).

I love this page with the angels.

 D looking over the pictures.

 E listening to the story.

This story is geared for children ages 3-5 but I think the age range is even broader than that.  It is a fairly thin book and short story.  Each page is accompanied by a rich watercolor illustration.  My children love looking at the illustrations while I read them the story.  The book opens with the angel telling Mary what is to come and ends with Mary, Joseph and Jesus leaving Egypt and heading home to Nazareth.  This is a great addition to our Christmas story collection.  This book also has a few extras in the back: a recipe for Christmas Biscuits (cookies), the music and words to "Away in a Manger", and a blurb about Christmas in general and angels.

Read more about this book and author below.

About this book
The birth of Jesus is recounted in The Christmas Story, a richly illustrated book with bonus activities geared for children ages 3-5.  Children will follow Mary and Joseph as they receive blessings from angels, travel to Bethlehem for the birth, are visited by wise men, escape from a cruel leader who wishes them harm and finally return safely to Nazareth.  Simple words make the story perfect for reading aloud.  The book also includes additional information about the Christmas holiday, the words and music to "Away in a Manger" and a recipe for cookies.

About the author and illustrator
Anita Ganeri is the author of more than300 books for children, including Alive, The Body Box, DK First Encyclopedia, Eruption and I Wonder Why the Sea is Salty.  Rachael Phillips is an author and illustrator of children's books.

Disclosure:  Thanks so much to Trafalgar Square Publishing for providing me with my own copy of The Christmas Story to facilitate my review.  All opinions expressed are my own.

5 Ways to Reuse or Upcycle Boogie Wipes Canisters

Most of you know that I am a Saline Ambassador for Boogie Wipes.  I actually belong to a team of great ambassadors known as Moms Who Boogie.  I often have Boogie Wipes containers around the house.  I started thinking, how can I re-purpose these?  Here are 5 ideas we came up with (I am sure there are tons more).  Please, please share your ideas/thoughts/pictures in the comments.  I would love to hear them.

For all the examples I started with an empty Boogie Wipes container, removed the label and went from there.

 Empty Boogie Wipes Container

Remove the label, super easy to do.

Canister without the label.

1.  Small Trash Can:  This trash can works great in a car or at home when doing crafts.  It is a great size for kids.  It was my daughter's idea to create the handles for easy transport.

Insert plastic bag and decorate.  A wanted to decorate this trash can with her stickers.

 Finished Trash Can

You can make it portable as well.

In use, view from above

Here is a collage of the entire process.

2.  School Supply Holder:  Whether you need help organizing your pens, pencils, markers or rulers, these canisters work great for all.

 Storing Markers

 Holding Pencils

 Storing Pens

Ruler Holder

I realize that not every family owns 10 rulers.  You would be surprised but they come in handy in homeschooling.  Basically these canisters are great for holding various office and school supplies and they could be used in your home, office or classroom.

3.  Straw Holder/Organizer:  These canisters also work well for holding straws (minus the lid).

And it can hold a lot of straws, more than I have right now.

4.  Water Cup for paintbrushes:  My kids love to paint!  I have never liked the idea of using our drinking cups for painting and then drinking.  A Boogie Wipes canister can be cut and used as a water cup for paintbrushes - woohoo!

Cut the canister to make a cup.

Painting set up

 B creating a picture.

5.  Change or Savings Jar:  This summer we went to Great Wolf Lodge and ever since we got home our kids have been talking about going back!  They started their own Great Wolf Lodge fund.  A Boogie Wipes canister is great for holding change or a specific fund.

We decorated the change jar with felt using a hot glue gun.

The kids made a label.

I cannot believe how much they have already saved!  There are lots of quarters under those bills.  They still have a ways to go though.

A and B with their finished jar.

What do you think?  Please share your thoughts and ideas!
