Beverly Lewis' The Confession DVD Review

I have a new movie to tell you about, Beverly Lewis' The Confession!  This film is a sequel to the Hallmark Channel's hit movie, Beverly Lewis' The Shunning and is based on the second novel of "The Heritage of Lancaster County" trilogy by Beverly Lewis.  Katie Lapp, a young Amish woman, goes on a journey in search of her identity - only to find herself embroiled in a mystery that must be solved before she can be reunited with the "Englisher" mother, who gave her up for adoption 20 years earlier.

Plot Synopsis:
Raised by an Amish family, Katie Lapp always felt the call of another life.  Now, her quest to find her birth-mother, Laura Mayfield-Bennet, has drawn her into the world of the "Englishers".  Along the way, two very different men try to help her overcome a devious scheme to steal her rightful inheritance.  Business-minded but kind-hearted Justin Wirth reaches out to discover Katie's hidden secrets, while her childhood companion Daniel Fisher sacrifices his own happiness for her future.  Katie's heart is divided between two worlds as love reveals truth in the moving saga based on the hit novel from New York Times best-selling author Beverly Lewis.

Based on the novel by Beverly Lewis and directed by Michael Landon Jr., the film has a screenplay by Brian Bird and Michael Landon Jr.  The film was produced by David R. Kappes and executive produced by Brian Bird, Maura Dunbar and Michael Landon Jr.

My Thoughts:
I have actually read all three novels in "The Heritage of Lancaster County" series: The Shunning, The Confession, and The Reckoning.  I have also seen Beverly Lewis' The Shunning on DVD.  So when given the opportunity to review The Confession on DVD I jumped at the chance!  I found this to be an extremely heartwarming film and it was fun to see the characters that I have read about and grown to love come to life on the screen.  As Katie, now Katherine, plunges into the English world in search of her birth-mother she discovers many differences from the Amish community where she grew up.  Unfortunately, everyone is not as trustworthy as she assumes and not everyone can be taken at face value.  Oh, how I wish this were not the case!  When Katherine finally does locate her birth-mother she is told a lie by none other than her mother's husband.  She ultimately decides that she has come too far to just give up and seeks to find out the truth herself, thank goodness.  And once again, she finds herself amidst deception as another woman is posing as her to her very ill mother.  Katherine is given a job at her mother's residence and decides to stay and work there in order to find out the truth.  In the end, the truth does indeed come out in a beautiful way.  I found myself so frustrated at the characters who were lying and living deceitfully for their own gain at the expense of others and it was so rewarding when everything did indeed come to light.  While some subplots conclude there are others that are still left open so you will not have closure for everything.  And while you do not have to watch The Shunning before watching this movie I would highly recommend it.  It will give you a greater picture of the story line and Katie's past as well as familiarity with many of the characters in this movie.  And I wouldn't be surprised if you learned a thing or two about the Amish life.

This inspirational drama has a runtime of 88 minutes and is set to release June 11th (be on the lookout).

Aloha Kathryn. This sounds like something I would enjoy watching too. I love reading Nora Roberts but I haven't enjoyed the movies they have made from her books. They just can't seem to get the right actors for the characters, and that throws the whole movie off. I would certainly watch this one though.

Thanks for the comment and follow. I am now following you thru GFC.
