Happy 17th Birthday A {Jewelry Cake}

A turned 17 on Friday!  In one year she will be a legal adult.  When possible, the kids are given a school holiday on their birthday so she had a relaxing day.  We had donuts and kolaches for breakfast and we picked Tex-Mex for dinner, yum!  We celebrated her with a small jewelry party yesterday.  I love how the cake turned out.

Djeco Cosmos Foil Review {Timberdoodle 1st Grade Curriculum Kit}

Today we are going to take a closer look at one of the art components in our 1st Grade Elite Curriculum Kit from Timberdoodle, our Djeco Cosmos Foil.  This set is geared for kids ages 6-10, or K-5th.

Our Cosmos Foil

Inside our Kit

What's included in our set?  There are 12 scene cards to decorate (4 different variations), 10 metallic foil transfer sheets in various colors, and tons of space-themed glue stickers to personalize (8 sheets).

Above you can see the different backgrounds to decorate.  There are 3 of each background.

Above you can see the metallic foil transfer sheets.

Some of the space-themed stickers.

How does it work?  After choosing their background, kids pick which stickers to adhere to their board.  After the correct sticker application, kids then decide which metallic foil they'd like their sticker to be and gently press it onto the top of their glue sticker.  After removing the foil, what's left behind is a fun, sparkly image.

F's 1st space board!  What a masterpiece 🙂

This is such a fun, hands-on activity for kids to create and complete.  F absolutely loves the space theme and all the star, planet, astronaut, rocket, etc. stickers to choose from.  He enjoys picking the stickers, choosing where to place them, and finalizing the color.

Our Djeco Cosmos Foil is a part of our Timberdoodle 1st Grade Curriculum Kit and we highly recommend it!

Disclosure:  Huge shout out to Timberdoodle for selecting me as a Timberdoodle Blogger.  I will be refunded the purchase price of our curriculum kit in exchange for my honest reviews.  All opinions are my own.

Messy Floors & Happy Hearts {Snow in Texas}

It snowed here the other day.  Like, real snow. ❄❄  We measured over 4 inches, which is completely insane for Texas!  We watched snow fall from the sky for over 6 hours at our house.  The kids were on cloud 9.  We played in the yard, went for a walk, built various snowmen and of course had epic snowball fights throughout the day.  It was amazing!  We had to take breaks and come inside to warm up and dry our clothes before heading out again, which led to some very messy floors but everyone went to bed last night with a very happy heart, at least I did.

D making a snow angel in our driveway.

G learned how to make the perfect snowball.  Don't worry, he put on gloves after this 😉.  If there was one thing I wish I had for everyone yesterday it would have been waterproof gloves!

Proof that we got G gloves.

F also learned how to make great snowballs.

If you live nearby, I hope you too enjoyed an unexpected snow day full of wonder and amazement.  I know we did.

SchoolhouseTeachers.com Logo

We are loving the variety of Elementary Homeschool Courses, Middle School Homeschool Courses and High School Homeschool Courses available with our Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership from SchoolhouseTeachers.com.  This is not our first time to review our membership but for those that don't know, this is an online membership that includes downloadable, printable elements as well as online classes and video components!  There is a lot to choose from and this site is an amazing resource.  I really appreciate that SchoolhouseTeachers offers a full curriculum for every grade starting with preschool all the way through high school, including electives.  I think it is important to note that every course is designed with a Christian worldview, which is great for us!  With our Ultimate membership, we have access to all the site's content which works well for large families like ours.  I really appreciate that we can customize classes and courses for each of our children as we desire.  While SchoolhouseTeachers can be used a a primary curriculum, we mainly use it to supplement as needed in our own homeschool.

Video Library

I definitely want to mention the video library.  With our membership we have access to hundreds of streaming videos that span multiple academic areas along with entertainment, marriage, parenting, Bible study, music and so much more!

Some of these videos of parts of the courses that SchoolhouseTeachers offers.  The video library rounds up all the videos in one convenient location so that you can watch them for fun as well.  I really like the looks of the Digital Art and Product Design for Small Business video.

Literacy Center

The Literacy Center is another fabulous resource.  It is designed to help you figure out where to begin reading instruction with your student.  Are they are pre-reader, emerging reader, early reader, growing reader, or fluent reader.  It also has a section on comprehension skills which are essential skills to have in order to understand passage content.  And if you can't get to a library, you will find downloadable books to enjoy.

D has been using SchoolhouseTeachers for her Science program this year.  She is taking the course Exploring God's World with Sixth Grade Science Lessons by Deana Pittman.

 This course is divided into 36 lessons within multiple units.

D has been learning about life science, plants, animals, anatomy, Earth science and more.  I made a folder for her with her syllabus, schedule, and class materials that I printed out and she has a corresponding science notebook as well.

This class uses a lot of online resources such as World Book.  She is enjoying the course and I look forward to hearing her thoughts when she completes it.

Happy 7th Birthday F {Star Wars Style}

F as Kylo Ren

F turned 7 on Monday!  David took the day off work and we had so much fun as a family playing games, hanging out and celebrating F.  He wanted a Star Wars themed party :).

F eating a cinnamon roll

We had Princess Leia cinnamon rolls for breakfast, hot dogs with mac and cheese for lunch (F's favorite) and Wendy's for dinner.

David made F a chocolate R2D2 cake.
