EdAlive Words Rock Online Review

Disclosure:  I received this complimentary product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

EdAlive

If you are looking for fun and educational online games, you might want to check out Words Rock Online from EdAlive.  We were recently given 12 months access to this online literacy program geared for ages 5-15 and beyond!  If EdAlive sounds familiar, you may remember our review from a few years ago of their Typing Tournament Online and Maths Invaders Online.

What is EdAlive?  It's an Australian based online learning company that creates educational games for students of various ages and grades.  One of the coolest aspects of its program is the games ability to adapt to the learners’ specific abilities through automated Adaptive Learning.

As students work their way through the program, they can earn awards along the way or more specifically Agent cards.

This system encourages students to keep playing and learning as they earn more and more cards.  Words rock Online covers topics like spelling, grammar, punctuation, pre-literacy and of course, vocabulary.

Above you can see that I am looking for slugs.  I am competing against 3 other players.

So, how do you play?  In Words rock Online you are a street-smart Seeker on the trail of the devious, slippery Super Slugs.  But there is a problem!  The Slugs are invisible.  You have to complete word skill questions in order to search the streets for the Slugs.  And there's another catch.  There are other Seekers competing against you to find the Slugs.  Yep, it's a multi-player game so you are competing against others.  With a little luck and the correct answers to the questions - hopefully you will become the number one Slug Buster!

An example of a question.  In this question, you are asked to determine the correct season for each picture.

And above, you can see a harder question.  Notice the blue box that allows students to say if a question is too hard for them.

And here you can see that in this game, I won so I was the #1 Slug Buster!

I love that this program is designed to be used by schools, families, homeschoolers - really everyone.  Words Rock Online is a fun way to incorporate learning and games.  I think students will definitely have fun as they learn more about spelling, grammar, punctuation, pre-literacy and vocabulary.

LeapFrog Academy® from LeapFrog® Review

{Disclaimer:  I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review.  I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.}

Leap Frog

We were blessed to receive a one-year subscription to LeapFrog Academy® from LeapFrog® for F and G!  This interactive, online, learning program is designed for children 3-6 years old.  There are over 2,000 games, eBooks, activities and more!  Children can play on the go!

Learning Adventures covers curriculum for PreK - 1st grade and includes subjects like math, reading and science.  I really appreciate that it tracks your child's learning progress and provides extra practice in the areas they need help with, such a cool feature.

I set G up on the Introduction to Pre-Kindergarten (ages 4-5) and F on the highest level Introduction to Grade 1 (ages 6-7).  Both boys enjoy this program but G has played the most of the two.  It's part of his "school" and he begs to play.

In this program, students move along their map or world by completing activities and games.  These activities are specifically designed for their level and as they continue on their journey, they build bridges (see above) which allows them to access even more of their map!  It's colorful and fun and G enjoys it.

There are also many options for activities outside their map.  One section that G particularly loves is art!  There is so much to do here.  G loves to build things, sort things, and color things.  There are so many fun activities and games to partake in.  He can also play games, puzzles, music, videos and more.

Above you can see G's dashboard.

When he selects art, here are a few of his choices.  The hearts show the activities that he likes the best.

The boys have both enjoyed earning certificates along the way!

One of F's certificates.

I really like that LeapFrog Academy® helps students with problem solving skills and creativity.  If you are looking for an educational program for your 3-6 year old, we highly recommend it.  They also have a free trial available!
