Camp David 2022

We had such a great time at Camp David's Family Retreat over the weekend!  The last two years the kids haven't been able to meet for in person camp (we had camp in a box!) and this year while they couldn't have the normal week long camp, we were blessed to be able to meet for a family weekend camp at The John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels!  David was with A at the Archery State Games so they joined us Saturday evening.  It was so great to see familiar faces and so many of the Texas Burn Survivor Society and their supporters.  I'm so grateful for this organization and for all the volunteers for the dedication and time and of course to everyone who supports them.  It was also great to get to know some of the other families as well.

The big kids met up with us later and helped work on a banner with glow-in-the dark paint for the Glow Party later that night.

There was an awesome raffle and the kids won so many wonderful prizes.  Above you can see D with the puzzle she won.

A huge thank you to the firefighters and EMT!  I know the littles loved exploring the fire truck and ambulance.

More Burn Camp in a Box Round 2 (Camp David 2021)

We have been having so much fun this week with all the goodies and activities that were included in the camp boxes for the kids.  If you read my first post, then you know that this years theme is the movie Onward.

We had so much fun at our home carnival!  A did a great job on face painting (G has the Curse Crusher from Onward and D has Guinevere from Onward), the kids had fun playing target ball, ladder ball, and of course there was lots of yummy food.

The kids were sent gift cards for a yummy Whataburger dinner!

 

We made salt dough dinosaur fossils!

 

We also had gift cards for a yummy Subway dinner another night!

 

We made gelatinous cubes inspired from the movie Onward!  I love the ones with the little LEGO swords and shield.

We had a fabulous Dance Night with dragon masks, balloons, glo-sticks and lots of great music.

I think you now have a glimpse into all the fun we have been having!  I'm so thankful to Texas Burn Survivor Society for everything that they do for my family and so many others 💜.  If you are ever looking for a great nonprofit to donate to, I highly recommend them.

Burn Camp in a Box Round 2 (Camp David 2021)

The kids were so excited to receive our camp boxes a few days ago for Camp in a Box this year.  I cannot tell you how excited F and G were to get their own boxes as well (it was so sweet of Texas Burn Survivor Society for thinking of them too).  The theme for this years camp is the movie Onward.

Camp David (In A Box) 2020

This week the oldest 5 kids have been experiencing Camp in a Box (well really our whole family!).  This would have been the week of burn camp for all of them; however, due to everything going on in the world, camp could not meet in person this year.  The kids all received camp boxes filled with all kids of activities and goodies.  Their boxes were delivered in person and it was pretty fantastic.  Watch the video below to see what I mean.



We also received a "family" box and F and G were happy to jump in and help when possible.  You can see the short video below of the kids opening up our family box!



The movie theme this year was Trolls World Tour and the overall theme of the camp was Dance to Your Own Beat.  I'm so thankful to Texas Burn Survivor Society (TBSS) and all they do every year to support pediatric burn survivors and their families.  This is always a highlight of the kids' summer and I'm so thankful for the extra work that volunteers put into this to allow the kids to experience some of camp from home this year.  Enjoy the photos - I really enjoyed taking them!

 It just wouldn't be camp without S'mores.  The kids all received kits for making homemade S'mores in their boxes.

Set up for movie night, Trolls World Tour.  We received a giftcard to download the movie and our whole family enjoyed watching it together with lots of fun snacks.

 We set up a few tents downstairs for the week and the kids could either sleep in the tents or in their beds, their choice.  Above is the boys tent.

The kids were given Whataburger giftcards to enjoy so our whole family had Whataburger for dinner one evening.

 Likewise, they were also given Chick-fil-A giftcards so our whole family had Chick-fil-A for dinner another evening.

The kids made fun instrument puzzles.  A built a violin, B built a bass guitar, C built a drum, D built a piano and E built an organ.  The tiny puzzles are so cute!

We also had a dance party!  The kids put together a playlist of music (I think it was over 3 hours long) and we set up our schoolroom as a dance area.  Our whole family had a lot of fun.  I don't have lots of photos but I do have a few fun videos 😉.

The kids had a lot of crafts!  They painted rocks.  They built and painted birdhouses.  C also built a paddle boat and tried it out in the bathtub - it worked.  They had a lot of fun with all their crafts and I was so pleased with how everything turned out.

 B made each side of her birdhouse a different type of weather.  Above you can see a tornado and a rain cloud.

The other side you can see a sunny day, a snowy day and the top is a view of nighttime.  I love how it turned out.

The kids also participated in a talent show!  E played a ditty on the piano.  D jumped rope with B.  A showed a few tricks with her Diabolo.  And the oldest 4 did a cup routine complete with a camp chant from last year!  Check out the video below.

This is just a sampling of everything the kids did last week.  I can't even begin to include everything but I hope you get the idea of how amazing TBSS did with having Camp in a Box this year.  We truly had a fantastic experience.
