I wanted to tell you about a new book I just finished reading, Grace Unplugged by Melody Carlson. You may have seen the previews for the upcoming movie that releases October 4th. The story centers around Grace Trey, and 18 year old singer/musician with amazing talent. Many years ago her father, Johnny Trey, was in the music business and essentially was a one hit wonder before deciding that wasn't the path for him. The father/daughter duo are both on the worship team of their church - Grace is under her father's leadership. She feels the need to spread her wings and make decisions of her own (without really consulting or talking about it with her parents) and Grace finds herself spiraling into stardom, leaving behind a very tense relationship with her father. Stardom is not all what Grace thought it would be and she finds her faith and morals put to varying tests along her journey. Grace ultimately has to make the decision about her faith - does she really own it? I am trying not to include any spoilers but I really enjoyed this book and the outcome. I would highly recommend it.
Now, within the book - Grace is confronted with questions about her faith and she is given the book, Own It.
This book is a challenge for the reader to really take ownership of their faith and beliefs, not to just follow in the footsteps of parents, friends or other influencers. I really liked seeing this book in person - it reminds me of how the Love Dare book really exists as it was presented in Fireproof. And I think this is a great companion for those that read Grace Unplugged or see the movie. This book will help solidify people who are on the fence or maybe don't understand what it means to have faith of their own. Paired with the Bible, you will be well on your way to walking in your own faith and trusting God in that path.

About Grace Unplugged the Novel
Grace
Trey is an 18 year old singer as passionate about her Christian faith
as she is her phenomenal, God-given musical talent. Both traits come
from her father, one hit wonder Johnny Trey who found Jesus after losing
his chart success two decades ago.
When
Grace encounters her own music break of a lifetime, the sudden dive
into the "real world" puts her deeper beliefs to the test. Pop
superstardom is just within reach but appears to require some spiritual
compromise. Will Grace reject her faith, or will she own it?
Grace Unplugged is based on the motion picture of the same name starring AJ Michalka (Super 8) and Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men) with performances by award-winning artists Chris Tomlin and Jamie Grace.
About Own It, Discover Your Faith in God
The movie Grace Unplugged tells
the story of Grace Trey, an ideal Christian teenager who is also a
phenomenal singer. But when she is pushed into the “real world” at the
tender age of eighteen after getting the music break of a lifetime, her
faith is put to the test. Own It mirrors
the film by asking what it means to really “own” your personal faith
rather than just automatically following in the footsteps of parents,
friends, or other influencers. Best-selling authors Hayley and Michael
DiMarco help readers understand what to do when faith meets real world
challenges.
Without solid
beliefs, poor choices are likely to follow. You must take the time to
really know who you are, who you are becoming, and who God made you to
be. It's your personal faith . . . own it!
