I want to share with you today the CSB Grace Bible for Kids!  This unique Bible was created in partnership with Holman Bibles, 2K/DENMARK and Cambridge University.  It is designed to specifically enhance readability for children with all levels and varieties of dyslexia and other reading challenges.  We received the blue LeatherTouch edition and it's beautiful.  I love the vibrancy of the blue and simplicity of the front cover.

Inside our Bible, The Ten Commandments

How does it do this?  The CSB Grace Bible for Kids features innovative typeface, layout and design principles.  These principles include added space between letters, words, lines and paragraphs as well as distinct letter forms.  I love that this Bible version helps include and encourage children with reading challenges to dive into God's word.  And while, my kids do not personally have reading challenges, I still appreciate this design and approach and I'm excited to add it into our Bible time.

A's Senior Banquet

Our church celebrated the seniors on Wed night with a banquet.  It was so fun!  It was a time to honor them, fellowship, share a wonderful meal, play games and celebrate.  I'm so thankful for our church community and their investment in our family!

We had a reserved table

Our family table

B sat with some friends

Vanilla Cake - A's favorite

And a chocolate one too

The parents of all the seniors wrote letters to them.  Likewise, the seniors wrote letters to their parents.  There was a special time where we were able to read our letters to each other in front of everyone.  It was very powerful and I cherish that experience.

E's Baptism

E made the decision to get baptized last Sunday!  I'm so proud of her.  Our church had a potluck dinner and gathered together to celebrate all of those getting baptized (and there were a lot!).

Congrats E - we are so proud of you and look forward to watching you continue to grow in your faith!  For those of you who didn't know about it (sorry!), there will be a future video I can share with you when it is released 😉.

Farmyard Faith by Whatsoever Stories Review

Disclosure:  I received this complimentary product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

Whatsoever Stories

We were blessed to receive Farmyard Faith from Whatsoever Stories to read in our homeschool.  Our paperback book contains 26 chapters (~ 200 pages) and is recommended for ages 10+.

Farmyard Faith is written by Kinsey M. Rockett, a homeschool graduate who began writing when she was a young girl.

I absolutely love that the goal of Whatsoever Stories is to provide families with captivating stories that emphasize biblical truths and help build Godly character. Their theme verse is below:

Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. - Philippians 4:8

As I previously mentioned, our book has 26 chapters and is a nonfiction collection of stories from the Rockett family's experiences over the past decade.  I really like how Kinsey shares how God used circumstances to help her faith.  D and E are both reading through our book and when they complete it, my plan is to read it aloud with the boys so we can discuss the various circumstances.  I love the idea of incorporating this book in our devotional time as it has real life experiences and applications.

Prepare for Easter with Pure Flix

I am so excited for Easter!  It's a great time to reflect and remember the sacrifice of Jesus.  I have been so impressed with the incredible library of Easter films and resources offered by Pure Flix.

There are a plethora of encouraging and inspirational films including Risen, The Passion of the Christ, The Case for Christ, The Chosen, A.D. The Bible Continues, Penitent Thief, & so much more!  There are several sections (Enter Into Easter, Easter For Kids, Easter Biblical History and Biblical Epics) that make it easy to find something for everyone in your family, regardless of their age.  You can dig deeper in your understanding and knowledge of the crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

David and I recently watched Risen, the epic Biblical story of the Resurrection told through the eyes of a Roman tribune, Clavius.  Clavius' life drastically changes after he investigates what happened after Jesus was crucified.  I do want to note that there is a warning for violent depictions of war, fighting, execution and aftermath of war and that warning is justified.  This film does a good job demonstrating the historical context.  I really enjoyed seeing the Resurrection story told through this unique perspective.

Check out the movie trailer for Risen below to see more for yourself.

Are you looking for films to help your family prepare for Easter?  Sign up with Pure Flix today here!  With Pure Flix you can have faith in your entertainment and have access to the top Christian movies and television shows.

I'm excited for the kids to watch The Lion of Judah next.

Indescribable Kids from Tommy Nelson Books Review

Disclosure:  I received this complimentary product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

I am so excited to introduce you to Indescribable Kids from Tommy Nelson Books!  We received The Wonder of Creation: 100 More Devotions About God and Science by Louie Giglio through the Homeschool Review Crew and love it!  This devotional is geared for children ages 6-10 so it works well for E, F and G 😉.  I have been using it mostly with the boys.

If you don't know Louie Giglio, he is well-known for his powerful messages about science and the Bible.  I love this children's devotional that inspires kids to marvel at God's creation.

Our book has 100 devotions that explore Space, Earth, Animals and People.  I love the quick topic reference above that makes it easy to jump around the book if you desire.

Each devotion includes a Bible verse, a scientific fact or easy activity for exploring faith and a closing prayer.  The boys enjoy the whimsical, engaging illustrations by Nicola Anderson as well as the information and scientific facts.  The devotions are short (2 page spread each); yet, contain great ways to explore our world and learn while growing in faith.  We are having a great time working our way through this devotional.  We definitely recommend it!

Roar Like a Lion: 90 Devotions to a Courageous Faith from Tommy Nelson Books Review

Disclosure:  I received this complimentary product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

Tommy Nelson

If you are looking for a children's devotional, I want to share with you Roar Like a Lion: 90 Devotions to a Courageous Faith from Tommy Nelson Books.

Our 192 page hard-back devotional by Levi Lusko is bright and fun with fascinating content and art.  It contains 90 days of devotions.

F and G with our devotional!

A peek inside

I have been using this devotional with the younger boys and we are all enjoying it!  Each of the 90 devotions includes a devotional, illustration, Bible verse and  prayer within a two-page spread.  You can easily see the format in the photo above.

Why are kids encouraged to roar like lions?  Well, lions roar to inform others where they are, to emphasize their power and to scare away enemies.  Children are encourage to "roar" for the same reasons - let others know where they are, show the power of God and to scare away the evil one.  I love this!

As I previously mentioned, the younger boys and I are working through this book.  Sometimes I read to them and sometimes F reads it to us.  It works well as a read-aloud, older kids could also read it independently.  I really like working through it together because it brings up great conversations and I love hearing what the boys think.  I appreciate that this devotional helps children build a strong Biblical foundation.  It has been easy to implement in our home as the lessons are not terribly long and we definitely recommend it.

What topics are found within out devotional?
  • facing fears about school and friendships
  • dealing with peer pressure and bullying
  • handling new challenges, disappointments and grief
  • having courage to try something new
  • understanding how we all fit into God's story

Backyard Bible Club Week

This week our chuch has been having Backyard Bible Clubs meet all throughout the city.  We are one of the host families and we are having a really fun time with all the kids that have come.  It's a great opportunity for everyone involved to grow in their faith and also a special time to have fun and meet new people.  I love that the older youth from our church run the clubs (A, B, and C are all at their own clubs).  My younger kids are having a blast and look forward to each evening.  Tonight is our last night - Super Hero Thursday 🦸
