Pursued to Eternity by John Riley Review

Disclosure:  I received this complimentary product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

Pursued to Eternity by John Riley

I have been beyond blessed to receive Pursued to Eternity by John Riley.  This short, fictional story takes you on a fast-paced adventure that begins in ancient times through the present and ultimately ends with our eternal future.  It's the story of God's pursuit of man.

My new paperback!

I was hooked from the very beginning of the introduction - dinosaurs, the Exodus, oil, apologetics - what was I about to read?

In this story we follow two brothers, Connor Bridges (a biology teacher and Christian), and his younger brother Dr. Alan Bridges (a geologist and professed atheist).

While there are 17 chapters and 151 pages, I found this book to be a fairly quick read because it was so interesting and engaging.  I love that it has a solid message of God pursuing man.  I also really appreciate all the bible evidence and proof about Creation.  I'm the only one who's read it so far but I'm going to have the older kids read it next because I think there's a lot of value in it!  I am such a fan of books that make you think and this is definitely one that does, it might even change how you think about the world.

John Riley has a Master of Science degree and has worked thirty-five years as an engineer.  During retirement, he and his wife, Nancy, have taught physics, robotics, SAT prep classes and an Apologetics: Creation vs. Evolution course on SchoolhouseTeachers.com.  It's a 14 week, video-based course geared for 7-12th grade that demonstrates the evidence and proof for Creationism and lets students decide for themselves what they think.

Check out the short video below from Covenant Books on Pursued to Eternity by John Riley!

Spirit of God Illustrated Bible Review & Giveaway

I have a new Bible to share with you, the Spirit of God Illustrated Bible, written by Doris Rikkers and illustrated by Fernando Juarez.

E, F and G with our new Bible

E reading aloud.

E has had a wonderful time reading this Bible.  She isn't finished but she has read quite a few of the "over 40 stories" that are presented.  I love that her reading has improved so much (she is only 6) and that she was eager to read this Bible.

Little Man G and F really like looking at the illustrations - they are unique and fun.

This is one of E's favorite illustrations.

I really like that the stories are all about God's Spirit, hence the name.  It starts in the beginning in the Old Testament with the story of God's Spirit in Creation and works through the New Testament to The Fruit of the Spirit and The Spirit Today.  One of the strengths of this particular Bible is that it has a good selection of a lot of different Bible stories making it fairly complete for a children's illustrated story bible.  We have several bibles in this category; all (including this one) have Creation, the Flood, the Exodus, birth of Christ, and Resurrection - The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible skips the lion's den, the fiery furnace, Solomon, Zaccheus, and other stories commonly found in a children's bible - replacing them with a rich selection including Bezalel, Gideon, Amasai, Ezekiel, Nicodemus, Simon the magician, Philip and the Ethiopian, and others.  It's a good selection.  If you don't have an illustrated storybook bible for children, this is a really good one to get.  If you already have other children's Bibles this one would certainly complement them in that it has a more unique set of stories.  I would definitely recommend this Bible.

Keep reading to find out more about this Bible.  And don't forget to enter the giveaway below!

Description from Publisher:  The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible brings to life more than 40 Bible stories that help readers understand that God's Spirit has been with us since the beginning of time and continues to be with us today.  From the glory of creation through the powerful letters of Paul, God's Spirit is living in his people.  Old and New Testament stories such as Adam and Eve, Abraham, Joseph, the Baptism of Jesus, and Pentecost come alive with dramatic illustrations by Fernando Juarez and moving text by Doris Rikkers.  With a cover that sparkles and shines with foil, this is a special storybook Bible that will appeal to both children and parents alike.

Author's Bio:  Doris Rikkers is a freelance writer and editor who has written many bestselling children's books and Bibles.  Although she loves the ocean, she lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan, surrounded by her books, her flower garden, and her family and friends.

Illustrator's Bio:  Spanish artist Fernando Juarez illustrates children's books and works as an art supervisor at the Madrid studio Ilion Animation.  The company produces 3D feature films for children.  Fernando has three kids himself, and if he has any time left after work and family, you might catch him playing guitar in a rock band.

The Action Storybook Bible Review, Blog Tour & Giveaway

I have a fun book to share with you, The Action Storybook Bible!  My kids love this book.  I know that it is specifically marketed for families with children ages 8 and under but it can work for a broader age range.  My older kids thoroughly enjoy The Action Bible (we have used it as our small group kids curriculum for the last year or so) already and this is a great addition for my younger kids to enjoy as well.  I really like the graphics and designs, the comic book feel is extremely appealing to children and it can provide a fun take on the Bible.  The reading is true and simple which I also think appeals to younger readers.  I really enjoy the extra contents that is included like the Heroes Hall of Fame index and The Life, Faith and Action! feature that helps you see how God is moving in each story.  I would highly recommend this book and its counterparts!

The page above is an example of the story of creation.

The NKJV Woman's Study Bible

The NKJV Woman's Study Bible

Have you seen The NKJV Woman's Study Bible?  My copy is stunning; I love the vivid colors and floral design on the front.  The pages have pink leaf edges which is also super fun.

My front cover

The NKJV Woman's Bible includes special family history and memory pages in the front.  I really appreciate having all the background information with each book of the Bible:  title, author, date, setting, purpose, audience, literary characteristics, themes, etc.  It really helps one dig deeper into the word of God.  Sometimes I can get confused on relationships and families and it is awesome to have a Bible that includes family trees for easy reference as well as hundreds of full-color-in-text maps, charts, and timelines.  The topical index, concordance and quotes from Godly women throughout history really complete this Bible with everything needed.

An example of a book introduction for the Book of Psalms

Themes and Outline of Psalms

I love having this Bible to have devotional times as well as deeper study times.  It is super convenient to have so much information all in one place and easily accessible right with the Word of God.  For me, this makes a deeper study of the Bible practical and possible.
