CTCMath Review

Disclosure:  I received this complimentary product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

CTCMath

G has been having a great experience with CTCMath.  We have been truly blessed with a 12 month subscription from CTCMath for all the kids.

Since G recently finished Preschool, I thought it would be great for him to jump into Kindergarten math over the summer so that is what he's been doing.

What is CTCMath?  CTCMath is a full math curriculum from K-12 (K Math through Calculus) and can also be used for catching up in math skills, keeping up with math skills and even moving ahead in math skills.  Students learn math at their own pace, which is awesome and where all the grade levels come in handy as well.  CTCMath was created by a father of 10 and homeschool parent, Pat Murray.  His goal with CTCMath was to create a program that teaches various learning styles with short, interactive lessons.

What topics does the Kindergarten Math cover?  There are 4 main sections

  • Numbers, Patterns and Algebra
  • Measurement
  • Space and Geometry
  • Statistics and Probability.

And within these 4 main sections there are subtopics as well.  You can see above the subtopics covered in the Numbers, Patterns and Algebra section.

Video lesson for Addition

I like that lessons include video tutorials that provide clear explanations of problems and solutions.  I also want to note that the lessons work great for both visual and audio learners.  Most videos have been fairly short in G's Kindergarten program and it has been easy for him to learn and retain the information.  You can pause the videos and rewind and rewatch them as needed.

Video lesson for the Days of the Week

Video lesson for More or Less Time

After the videos, students will complete interactive questions that test them on how well they understood the videos and concepts being taught.  These questions are automatically graded and students can view their grade right after completing them.  They even see confetti on the screen.

G has really enjoyed his questions and has only missed a few so far in the entire program (and one of those was because he accidentally typed 66 instead of 6).

Above is an example of one of G's questions.

And one more...

There are lesson summaries and downloadable pdfs (worksheets) that can be used to help students with their materials.  I really like that these are available, especially for hands-on learners.

I really like the progress reports that make it easy to track G's progress and see how he is doing so I can monitor his progress.

Above you can see G's progress for that section.

Above you can see that he has worked his way through the first two main sections of this program.

G loves it when I print out his certificate awards as he works his way through Kindergarten Math.

This has been such a fun program for G and I am amazed at how well he is doing.  F has ~ more week to complete of his 1st grade math and I plan to have him begin 2nd grade through CTCMath.
