Write and Draw Your Own Comics Review

I have a totally fun item to share with you today from Timberdoodle, Write and Draw Your Own Comics!  This 96 page book (with 4 pages of stickers as well) from Usborne is geared for children ages 10 and up.

This book is specifically designed to help children who want to create comics know where to start.  It's full of great ideas and there's a plethora of space for students to create their own comics with writing and drawing tips all along the way.

Contents of our book
(notice the spiral binding inside which helps our book lay flat - love this)

As you can see from the contents, this book walks you through the basics of comics and beyond.  I love that it helps you create characters, draw your characters, think about the speech bubbles, plotting and more.  A and D have used this book the most in our home.

D created a fun fairy tale comic.

Here you can see a closer view of the beginning of her comic.  I love that the fairy godmother gave them a pig.

And what else would show up at a ball other than a dinosaur!

A created a character, The Black Ninja.  I think it's hilarious that he is terrified of cake.

Tips on drawing characters and facial expressions.

Adding a conversation with speech bubbles!

A had to create a plot for The Black Ninja.

A closer view

As I previously mentioned, there are 4 pages (130+) of cartoon-style stickers that kids can add to their creations as well.

The rough planning for The Black Ninja comic's beginning.  You can see that A used a few sticker bubbles.

With colorful, step-by-step instructions and practical tips, this books is such a fun way to dive into comics and truly gives you the tools to do it.  It's creative writing at its best.  Write and Draw Your Own Comics is currently included in Timberdoodle's 4th grade curriculum kit.  If you have a child who loves being creative, enjoys comics and/or graphic novels, or has an interest in drawing, I would definitely recommend this book!

Disclosure:  Huge shout out to Timberdoodle for selecting me as a Timberdoodle Blogger.  I received Write and Draw Your Own Comics at a discounted price in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are my own.
