Cakes For Dinner

Last week David came home telling me about a meatloaf cake that his coworkers had told him about.  It is basically a meatloaf with mashed potato frosting.  So today I decided to make it!  I also decided to make my famous rainbow cake for fun and comparison.  Of course I couldn't eat any (of the rainbow one that is), today is day 2 for me of no sugar.  We shall see how it goes.

So, basically you make a meatloaf how you prefer and put it into two round cake pans as seen above.

I put a layer of ketchup between the meat loafs.

And then frost with mashed potatoes

All frosted

All smooth and garnished with cherry tomatoes, not too bad huh?

After we cut into it...

And for the rainbow cake!

You make it from the bottom up so you have to start with the purple, then blue, then green, etc.

The other batters, I love that this cake is so colorful

Frosted, this cake is always super tall

I received my Lilla Rose flexi clips that I ordered from my party this weekend.  The girls and I have been having so much fun trying them out.

A and B are really liking the half up.

And today we had some fun doing busy bags from the last swap I was a part of.  The kids worked on the ice cream scoops, the clothesline, the felt building, and shape sorting/matching.

All in all today was a very good day.  Hope yours was too :)

More Busy Bag Fun: Felt Fishing Game

Well, I am taking part in another busy bag swap!  My assigned job was a no sew felt fishing game and I needed to make 30 of them.

The yellow fish - each fish has a washer glued near the mouth.

I added a little personality.

The red fish.

The rods: a pencil with a magnet on one end.

Finished bag: 3 fish and one rod.

I left the blue fish plain.  I hope all the kids enjoy them and we cannot wait to get our box in the mail!

And another year bites the dust...

What I look like blowing out 34 lit candles :)

Yesterday I turned 34!  I was so blessed to be able to celebrate with my hubby and 5 kiddos.  We had an intimate birthday celebration at home and I wouldn't have chosen it any other way.

My three layer cake with mint frosting in between each layer, yummy!  Oh, and the kiddos added bubble gum on the sides for decoration.

And we got to go to the pumpking patch around the corner from our house.

 A posing with the pumpkins.

B helping search for the perfect pumpkin.

C next to the tallest pumpkin.

D and E were with us but they both fell asleep in their strollers on the walk there!  And to finish off the post, the kids did their cupcake busy bags - it seemed appropriate.
A and C working hard.  I love the assembly line they created.

 Masterpieces.

B was so proud of her creation.

My First Busy Bag Swap

I am participating in my first busy bag swap (thanks Sarah).  Yeah!!  There are only a few of us but I am still excited.  I made the cupcake busy bags, the link can be found here - thanks MoneySavingMom!  I have been having contractions pretty much every night for the last week so I was able to knock these bags out pretty quickly :)

I might have went a little overboard with how many I included but I wanted lots of options.  You can see the cupcakes, frostings and liners here.

And of course the toppings!

The finished bags - and they are in the mail :)  Hope you ladies like them!
