Overcomer Releases in Theaters August 23rd

I want to share with you the upcoming movie, Overcomer.  This upcoming release is from the creators of War Room, Fireproof and Facing the Giants.  I love the Kendrick Brothers!  I have seen all of their films including their first release, Flywheel.  I'm so excited to see this movie.  Get ready because this films opens nationwide on August 23rd!

Synopsis:  Life changes overnight for coach John Harrison when his high school basketball team's state championship dreams are crushed under the weight of unexpected news.  When the largest manufacturing plant in town suddenly shuts down and hundreds of families begin moving away, John must come to grips with the challenges facing his family and his team.  Urged by the school's principal to fill-in and coach a sport he doesn't know or like, John is frustrated and questioning his worth ... until he crosses paths with a student struggling with her own journey.

Filled with a powerful mix of faith, a twist of humor, and a ton of heart, the Kendrick Brothers return to theaters with Overcomer, their newest feature following Facing the Giants, Fireproof, Courageous, and the #1 box-office hit, War Room.  The inspiring family film stars Alex Kendrick, Priscilla Shirer, Shari Rigby, Cameron Arnett, and introduces Aryn Wright-Thompson.  Overcomer dares to leave you filled with hope, inspired to dream, and asks the question: what do you allow to define you?

Unstoppable Movie Review & Giveaway

I have a new film to tell you about, Unstoppable.  This film is more of a sermon than a feature film but it is good, really good (I just think you need to know that going into it though).  And the back cover states "this is a movie that families everywhere need to see" - I just want to be clear that I wouldn't show it to young children (some of the Biblical stories depicted on-screen include Cain murdering Abel and could frighten young ones like mine).  The Dove Foundation states that it is appropriate for ages 12+ and I completely agree with this assessment.

Cameron poses several questions like Why do bad things happen to good people? and Where is God in the midst of tragedy and suffering? throughout this film.  He uses scripture, his own life experiences, and artistic images to answer these questions and take you along on his sermon journey.  As a Christian it was easy for me to follow along with the Biblical stories spoken and depicted on-screen.  The story of his young friend dying of cancer along with the images of his friend's family and funeral drives the point home that suffering is indeed happening all around us, tragedy touches everyone at some level.  This film doesn't necessarily answer all the questions that it poses.  However, it does take us back to the beginning and shows us that God is there, He is here and He is faithful.

About Unstoppable
Inspired by the death of Cameron's close friend who succumbed to cancer at the age of 15, Kirk Cameron takes viewers on an inspiring and  hop-filled visual journey to better understand the biggest doubt-raising question in faith: "Where is God in the midst of tragedy and suffering?"  Going back to the beginning - literally - Kirk investigates the origins of good and evil and how they impact our lives...and our eternities.  Unstoppable will prompt audiences to consider the role that pain and suffering has in our lives, as they affirm their personal views on faith, and encourage conversation starters about God, suffering, and hope.  In theaters for only two weeknights (Sept 24th and Oct 3rd 2013), Unstoppable: A Live Event with Kirk Cameron sold a staggering 260,000 tickets and reached a theatrical gross of over $3.2 million dollars.  In just two nights this independent project sent a loud message - audiences want thought-provoking and meaningful entertainment.  Kirk Cameron is best known for his memorable role as "Mike Seaver," a cultural icon of the 80's, with his mullet hairstyle, cool glasses, and wisecracking comebacks.  More recently he enjoyed much success with the No. 1 grossing inspirational film of 2008, Fireproof, and his recent documentary, Monumental.  Kirk and his wife, Chelsea, were on-screen sweethearts during their Growing Pains years and are the founders of Camp Firefly, where terminally and seriously ill children and their families are provided an all-expense paid retreat (www.CampFirefly.com).  Together, Kirk and Chelsea live in California with their six children.
