Timberdoodle's Deep in the Jungle Mosaics Review

E is really loving our Deep in the Jungle Mosaics Kit from Timberdoodle.  When I first saw this kit, I knew that it would be perfect for her.  She really enjoys art and art projects.

 E with our new kit.

In our kit you get to decorate 4 different wild jungle animals (jaguar, frog, bird and serpent) and create lovely mosaics.  Kids follow the color-codes indicated on the decorated illustrations as they stick on the self adhesive metallic foam squares and embellish with rhinestones.

Everything inside our kit: 4 animal templates, 16 colored sheets of foam stickers, 4 sheets of rhinestones and an instructions booklet.

 Our templates

The Jaguar close up.  You can see that the various squares have numbers associated with them.  The instruction booklet tells you which color foam squares are associated with each number.

I want to note that the instruction booklet does not have word instructions but everything is shown in pictures.  I also want to note that E confused a few of the yellow/gold colors on her jaguar and we ended up not having enough of certain colors so she had to improvise because of this.  If you want to get the colors exact, I would suggest looking at the colors needed for all 4 templates and matching them up prior to starting your first design to make sure you don't make the same mistake we did.  Hope this tip helps you!

E wanted to make the jaguar first.

Above you can see the directions for the foam squares (remember no words).

E made the serpent next.  Above you can see she is more than halfway done applying the foam stickers.

Here is a closer look at how the booklet shows you the numbers associated with the colors of foam stickers.

After the square foam stickers are applied, the self adhesive rhinestones are added to complete the piece.  The directions circle the rhinestones needed and circle on the animal where the rhinestones go with the same matching colored circle.

When E was completing her jaguar 12 = black squares.  When she looked at the serpent instructions it looked like they marked 12 = blue square.  Later on though, 12 really was black.  This was another minor discrepancy we found in the directions.

Despite the few color mix-ups, I really do think this set is great for your budding artist.  It's fantastic for building fine motor skills, creativity and more!  We had plenty of foam stickers and rhinestones left over after completing all 4 pieces so that was nice.  I also want to mention that you could decide to create your own number/color pattern and be super original.  Your creations do not have to match the directions.  This set is targeted for kids ages 7-13.  E (age 8) and D (age 10) both had a lot of fun with it.  D completed one project while E completed the other 3 projects.  They are both really proud of their final pieces and they hung them up in their room!  E is already asking for more sets like this, that's a win!

Disclosure:  Huge shout out to Timberdoodle for selecting me as a Timberdoodle Blogger.  Timberdoodle sent my family Deep in the Jungle Mosaics in exchange for our honest review.  All opinions are my own.

I love how these turned out - even with the misunderstanding re: colors. They make such pretty artwork.

Absolutely! I wanted to give a heads up because if we could go back we would most likely presort the colors but it didn't hinder my daughter a bit in that she really enjoyed it and loved getting extra creative. This kit is so much fun either way!!
