Show Me The Father Movie Review & Fandango Giveaway

Remember my post telling you about the upcoming movie, Show Me The Father?  It's the Kendrick Brothers' first documentary and it's full of true stories pointing toward the father heart of God.

I had the privilege of attending a Zoom call a few weeks ago with the Kendrick brothers and it was so fun!  You can see me in the top left corner and you can see the brothers, Stephen and Alex, in the second row middle column.  I really enjoyed hearing from them about how the movie came to being and some of their process in making it.  I so appreciate them taking the time to meet with all of us that were on the call.

David and I were so blessed to watch a prescreening of Show Me The Father together.  I really enjoyed following the different story lines in this film and seeing how each of them played out.  I think there is a reason why so many movies are based on true stories.  It's so great to see 5 true stories in this film.  I know from my Zoom call that the Kendrick Brothers had to narrow it down (they had lots of great stories to share) and I think they choose great ones to include.  I feel pretty confident that one of them (or two, or three) will give you goosebumps.  And while I definitely do not want to spoil anything, I will say that you might be surprised at a few of the twists and turns that happen.  As Chris Tomlin so eloquently put, God is a "good good father" and I think this new documentary helps highlight that for sure.

I want to share the trailer for this movie with you again below.  Keep reading after you watch it for a little giveaway.

Ready for a giveaway?  One of you will win 2 free tickets to see Show Me The Father this opening weekend via Fandango 🙂.  Show Me The Father hits theaters September 10th and you won't want to miss it!  Just enter below and good luck!  This giveaway is limited to US residents only.

Family Dream Adventures & SMALLFOOT's Upcoming Release

SMALLFOOT releases in theaters September 28th

SMALLFOOT is an adventure for all ages, with original music and an all-star cast (Channing Tatum, Zendaya, LeBron James, Gina Rodriquez, and Danny DeVito)!  SMALLFOOT turns the Bigfoot legend upside down when a bright young Yeti finds something he thought didn't exist - a human.  News of this "smallfoot" throws a simple Yeti community into an uproar over what else might be out there in the big world beyond their snowy village, in an all new story about friendship, courage and the joy of discovery.

One of our amazing views

This film makes me think of discovery and exploration.  It was about this time last year that we went on a pretty epic family vacation.  We attended a beautiful family wedding in California (D and E were flower girls and F was the ring bearer).  Neither David nor I or any of our children had been to California so it was an extra special trip.  We also threw in a side trip to Disneyland!  On the way home we were able to visit the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and the Petrified Forest just to name a few of our stopping spots.

One of the many castles we saw on our honeymoon in Ireland.

When David and I were married we were able to take a pretty amazing honeymoon that included a trip to Ireland.  I had always wanted to go there.  Someday I really hope to take all our kids there.  The land is amazingly beautiful and visiting the castles feels like stepping back in time.  I want my kids to experience this!

Check out the trailer for SMALLFOOT below and let me know what you think.

Disclosure:  Thanks so much to Grace Hill Media for selecting me to participate in this campaign.  By sharing this information with you I will receive a family prize pack for SMALLFOOT!  All opinions are my own.

Like Arrows in Theaters May 1st and May 3rd & Giveaway

Those that know me, know that I have a thing for arrows.  I love them!  David and I actually refer to our children as arrows occasionally.  So I especially love the concept of the upcoming movie Like Arrows.  It's a film about a pair of parents trying to figure life out.  When conflict, rebellion, and resentment overwhelm their family, Charlie and Alice are forced to rethink their parenting strategy.  They realize how critical intentionality and focus are when shaping and molding young lives.  FamilyLife's first feature film explores the joys and challenges that come with raising children.  Charlie and Alice learn that knowing and living by God's Word is what brings transformation and hope to any family.  Like Arrows is executive produced by Alex and Stephen Kendrick, and FamilyLife's Dennis and Barbara Rainey and Bob Lepine.  This parenting movie will release in theaters for two nights only - May 1st and May 3rd.  This film will release as part of a significant new parenting initiative called FamilyLife's Art of Parenting, which will also include a free online video series and an eight-session small group series.  Check out more about the Like Arrows Art of Parenting resources here.

This is not a nationwide movie.  To find out if Like Arrows is playing near you click here.  I'm excited as it is playing in multiple locations near me.

I had the privilege of seeing an advanced prescreener for Like Arrows and I really enjoyed it.  Like Arrows is named for Psalm 127:4 (Like Arrows in the hands of a warrior are the children of one's youth).  I found many of the scenes and characters to be very relatable, especially as I am in the midst of this journey through parenthood.  I felt that overall this film was pretty easy to watch and enjoy and was a realistic representation of parenting in the trenches.  There were a couple of times that it became obvious that the movie is promoting a specific program, which caused me to momentarily pull away from caring about the characters but they jump right back into the storyline and allow you to get back into the movie.  A huge plus for this is that the parenting initiative plugged has a free online video series and small group series with the FamilyLife's Art of Parenting.  So it's a movie with follow-up resources, that is unique and rare and I'm on board with that!

Ready for a giveaway?  I'm giving away 2 Fandango codes so you can see the movie yourself.  The codes will be emailed to the winner.  Winners are only allowed from the continental U.S.  Enter below and good luck!  This is a super fast giveaway so enter now.

The Man Who Invented Christmas Premeirs November 22nd & Giveaway

My favorite holiday is quickly approaching.  And while Thanksgiving is next I am actually referring to Christmas.  I love all the red and green, holiday music and most of all the spirit of giving!  David and I have been long time supporters of several different organizations.  I would like to highlight two of them:  Mobile Loaves and Fishes and H.E.A.R.T.

Mobile Loaves and Fishes' food truck volunteers in Austin hit the streets 7 nights a week, 365 days a year to provide food, clothing, hygiene products and other necessary items to those in need.  Mobile Loaves and Fishes is the largest prepared feeding program to the homeless and working poor in Austin, Texas and it's an amazing organization.

The H.E.A.R.T. Program which stands for Housing, Entrepreneurship And Readiness Training was founded in order to create new opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to achieve their full potential.  Since opening their program in 2006, this non-profit has served hundreds of people in the Houston area.  I love their philosophy that everyone deserves the opportunity to excel and experience the sense of pride and accomplishment that is achieved through education and employment.

Would you consider giving to one of these amazing organizations this Christmas season?  Not only will you bless others, you will feel good doing it!

Now, I want to tell you about an upcoming family movie, The Man Who Invented Christmas, which releases in theaters November 22nd.  Christopher Plummer from The Sound of Music stars alongside Dan Stevens from Beauty and the Beast and Downton Abbey in this film that tells the magical journey that led to the creation of Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and other classic characters from "A Christmas Carol."  This film shows how Charles Dickens combined real life inspirations with his amazing imagination to create unforgettable characters and a timeless tale, forever changing the holiday season.

Check out the behind the scenes Film Featurette below.
